I am so happy to have finally completed my video.
I am currently in the long process of making my after effects video is taking me a long time to understand the timings and how to get different text to animate at different times.
I have in the mean time created some graphics that I am going to use in my video as follows.
The little men were created on illustrator and duplicated them by using Photoshop.
The bathtub image was created using a royalty free clipart image that i manipulated and duplicated 27 times on Photoshop.
I have read up on some books of how to use adobe after effects, however they don’t seem to be very helpful.
I have had a look on Youtube on some of the tutorial videos but it is difficult to understand them I think the best way for me to learn the software is to play around and create new things I have just learnt how to do this effect the spinning world.
I dont think I’m going to use this in my video as it doesn’t really fit in with my theme, however some of the tutorial videos are useful.
Here are some facts that i got from the science museum and from a couple of online websites.
1. Only 2.5% of water is fresh
2. We use 27 bathtubs of water per day.
3. 90% of water is from Antartica.
4. We need 26,000 liters of water to feed a family of four.
5. Population is growing.
6. We have a population of 6.8
I thought that I would gather my research the old fashioned way by making a trip to the science museum ,
so i could learn about water consumption and the problems that we face for the future.
After wondering around for a while, I found out that all the information I needed was located in the antenna room.
In here they provided me with a lot of facts about water that i didn’t know before like for example “each person uses 27 bathtubs of water a day” and that “in 2050 we will need 30% more water” to survive with the
growing population rate. http://antenna.sciencemuseum.org.uk/waterwars/
They also had their own info graphic video but this was aimed at children. In my video I want my audience to be for mainly adults.
I have decided that I want to make an info-graphic video but now I need to decide what to focus my idea on. I have thought of a few ideas for example.
where clothes are manufactured and how much manufacturing there is in the UK, Mary portas recent TV programme has lead me to think of this idea.
I was also thinking about doing something that is geographic as i really liked the way that national geographic made their video so I am thinking about doing something on water consumption as I know there is a
good lot of information at the science museum that I could get information on. I think im swayed more to the second idea as there has been a lot of information about manufacturing recently.
Once I have got all my information together im going to make a couple of storyboards and learn more about the software im going to be using.
I have been looking through a coupe of books to gather ideas for my project for example i found the book, information is beautiful really inspiring with the way the use graphics to show statistics in innovative ways.
http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/ the website was really useful I really want to use a couple of pictures in my video to show some of my statistics.
I aslso had a look through the book: Just My Type which told me all about the way different fonts can give of different messages.
overall I have decided to create a video that consists of mainly type but with a couple of pictures that i will make to enforce the statistics.
I went and did some research in how typography animation works and decided that because Im not a film expert and that i dont have time to draw lots of detailed pictures that this would be best plus im not the best artist so have decided i can make some simple photos but mainly going to use words in my project.
These are so videos that i looked at that have some good typography animation.
I really like the way this video has just used music in the background as I feel it puts an emphasis on the words.
As we were watching different info-graphic videos in class i decided that I wanted to create my own.
I like the way that these videos allow a story to be told in a creative and innovative way.
I am also intreseted in photography and graphics,
so thought it would be a good chance to experiment with these techniques and create my own video.
I was inspired by the seven billion are you typical video made by national geographic which i have posted below;
I also looked at some other ways people have created their own stories in infographics and here are so other videos below
I really like the way that this video has used a lot of statistics that flow well together and overall the animation is very good.
